In the Netherlands Genealogy Index there are alternate
spellings of Nicholas' first (Nicolaus*) and last name (Hoemans and Haymanns).
There is also an alternate spelling of Jacoba's last name (Sponk). For this tree, the last name spellings found
the most in recorded genealogical records were used.
It seems that our generation's "Hooyman" lastname version
morphed over time quite a lot in both Germany and the
Netherlands even before John Jacob Hooyman came to America
in 1865.

Ryan was a paper mill worker at Appleton Coated Paper.
After losing his right arm in a paper machine accident there,
he
became a salesman at Appleton Marble and Granite Works. Ryan was an avid gardener, keeping a
lush garden in their backyard which the family relied on to
help feed them during hard times.
Bertha was a mother/homemaker and worked at a bakery. She
moved with her family from Germany to Wisconsin in 1891.

Betty graduated from Appleton High School in 1943, was a
secretary for Kimberly-Clark (1943-1950), a
mother/homemaker, an executive secretary for Southwestern
University in Memphis, TN (1963-1968), Manpower (1968-1969)
and NCR
(1970-1977) in Dayton, OH, and Kimberly-Clark back in
Appleton (1978-1986). Betty remarried in 2006 to
Denton Engstrom in Appleton. Betty enjoyed
playing cards, cribbage, knitting, and visiting with family.

Chuck graduated from Appleton High School in 1941, graduated
from Kaukauna Vocational School in 1941 with a mechanics
license, was a office manager in the Army (1942-1945),
graduated from the Business Institute of Milwaukee
(1946-1948) with a AA in Cost Accounting, was an accounting
clerk for Western Condensing (1948-1955) and an accountant
and data processing manager for Kimberly-Clark in Appleton,
WI (1955-1957), Memphis, TN (1957-1968), West Carollton, OH
(1968-1977) and back in Appleton (1978-1986)

Betty met Denton in 2005 at the Renaissance Assisted Living
Center in Appleton while she was recovering from a stroke
she had during a knee
replacement surgery in November 2004. Denton had
recently lost his wife Van to Alzheimers and had made many
friends at the Renaissance during his wife's time there,
living in a house next to the facility.

Denton grew up in Minneapolis, MN, graduated from Edison
High School in 1940 and graduated from University of
Minnesota in 1946 with an MD doing his internship and some
residency at St. Barnabus Hospital, Minneapolis (1946-1947).
During college he enlisted in the army, eventually becoming
a Captain Medical Officer at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft.
Sam, TX and Madigan General Hospital, Ft. Lewis, WA
(1947-1949). He had a long career as a Psychiatrist at
the VA Psychiatric Training Program, Philadelphia, PA
(1950-1952), Director of Child Guidance, Youngstown, OH
(1952-1954), Instructor in Psychiatry at University of
Minnesota (1954-1956) and in private practice in Minneapolis
(1956-1958), Springfield, MI (1958-1960) and Appleton, WI
(1960-1987).

Betty and Chuck lived in Appleton, WI (1949-1956), Memphis, TN
(1957-1968), Dayton, OH (1969-1977), Appleton, WI
(1978-present), and Punta Gorda, FL (1986-present).
Chuck passed away in 2002 and Betty was remarried to Denton
in 2006. Betty and Denton split their time together between
Appleton, WI in the summer and Punta Gorda, FL in the winter
until 2013. Their Punta Gorda condo was sold in 2014, and
they lived in Betty's Appleton duplex together until Betty
passed away.
