Steffens - "Chuck"

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend,
Chuck was born December 31, 1923 to Dora and Lawrence
Steffens. He spent his childhood in Appleton,
graduating from Appleton West in 1941. Chuck served in the
Army from 1943-47. He graduated from the Business
Institute, Milwaukee with a degree in Accounting. Chuck
married Betty Hooyman on August 27, 1949 at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church. He was employed as a data processing
manager by Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah, WI,
Memphis, TN, and Dayton, OH. He retired in 1986 after
30 years of service. Chuck was an avid reader and
fisherman, and enjoyed doing both at the same time. He
also loved gardening (especially growing roses),
woodworking, golfing, and bowling.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Betty, and three sons
and daughters-in-law: Bruce (Cathy) of Orlando, FL, David
(Nan) of Dayton, OH, and Alan (Nora) of Seattle, WA, 4
grandsons: Jeremy (Melody) of Lafayette, IN, Benjamin of
Orlando, FL, Matthew and Zachary of Dayton, OH, and one
granddaughter Shannon of Seattle, WA.
Surviving brothers and sisters are: Ceil Smith, Marge
(Donald) Baer, Mary Keller, and Ken Steffens, all of
Appleton; Edward (Marian) of Santa Barbara, CA, Larry (Cleo)
of Kelly Lake, WI, Gene (Connie) of Oshkosh, WI and many
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents and brother Florian and brothers-in-law Bob Kranhold,
John Fentz, Don Keller, and Bill Smith, and sisters-in-law
Mildred Kranhold and Florence Fentz. Chuck was a member of
St. Pius Catholic Church.
Chuck was an active volunteer in church and civic
organizations. He spent many years as a Cub and Boy
Scout leader in Memphis, TN. Prior to his stroke in
1993 he was a volunteer at the St. Joseph Food Pantry for
many years. Chuck was a resident of Punta Gorda, FL
for the past several years. He spent his winters in FL
and his summers in WI since his retirement.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Monday, April 1 at
Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel. A burial mass will be
held on Tuesday, April 2 at 11am at St. Pius Catholic Church
with Fr. Zuleger officiating. A celebration of life
will be held at the Knights of Columbus Club following the
church service. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. |
