Kaarina worked as an upstairs maid for the Sanborn family which owned the Sanborn Packing/Seafood Company in Astoria.  She came to the US from Finland though Ellis Island, NY in 1919 at age 21, being sponsored by her cousin, Gus Helberg.  Gus owned Helberg's Drugstore in Astoria. Daniel and Kaarina met in Astoria.  Daniel's first wife Phoebe was Kaarina's best friend.  Daniel and Phoebe did not have any children.  Phoebe died, Daniel married Kaarina and they had a long life together. Pat went to Oregon State University for two years.  She worked at a soda fountain, as a processor at Bumblebee Tuna, a mother/homemaker and was an expert at packing up and moving! Bill and Pat met in Astoria, married a few years later and lived in Astoria, OR (1950), Stockton, CA (1951), Norfolk, VA (1952), Tuxedo, MD (1952), Boston, MA (1953), Little Creek, VA (1954), Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (1957), Bremerton, WA (1960), Chula Vista, CA (1963), finally settling back in Bremerton in 1965 when Bill retired from the Navy.
