The area our snorkel cruise took us to is informally known as "Captain Cook Cove".  It's official name is Kealakekua Bay.

Kealakekua means “the pathway of the gods” in Hawaiian.  It was in this special place that thousands of ancient Hawaiians gathered every year in a celebration honoring their fertility god, Lono-i-ka-makahiki, during what was known as the makahiki festival.

Kealakekua Bay is also the site of the Captain Cook monument where a minor misunderstanding lead to his untimely death at the hands of the Hawaiian natives on
Feb 14, 1779.

This beautiful cove had some nice reef formations and lots of colorful fish, eels and lots of other sea creatures to view.
