After the green color has been troweled in, the dark gray release powder has been broadcast across the surface, and the slab has been textured, the crew measures and snaps diamond shaped lines in the surface and chisels in the section dividers about 3/4s of an inch deep.  This will force cracks (if they occur) to happen along the chiseled lines.
