We made several concrete enclosures for bamboo in our exposed aggregate sidewalk work.  Bamboo roots are very invasive so the concrete shell of the enclosures were at least 2 feet deep.  We used bamboo to give us a leafy privacy screen for the hot tub and along the east side of the fence all the way to the front gate.  The bamboo shown grew 2-3 feet a year and required constant thinning and pruning after about 3 years at a height of 10-12 feet.
