(FMCS was standard equipment with the BOEING
737-300 ... kind of like the reclining bucket seats in your BMW).
The next airplane you fly in may have my software as pilot ... I'm
sure the train system will get a big boost from you all.
Skiing has emerged in the last few years as my
favorite sport ... spent nine days In Aspen, Colorado ... four
days on the slopes in Bend (Mt.Bachelor), Oregon (with an energetic
ski club group of 300) ... Boyne Mt., Michigan and numerous other
resorts in Washington State. I haven't yet figured out why
"Look out below, man out of control" echoes down the
mountainside every time I get off the lift and start down a run.
Other sports included: playing softball in two
feet of snow in the Grand Rapids "snowball" tournament
(Peppermint Schnapps makes a good anti-freeze), backpacking and
camping in the Northern Cascades, canoeing around Lake Washington by
the U. of W., inner-tubing down the Skykomish River (white water
rapids, wet buns and cold beer) and horseback riding and saying
"Howdy partner" around the "High Lonesome Ranch".
And how about those Seattle Seahawks,'ey?
The social scene, as always, saw fulfillment
of my party quota. Memorable ones included New Year's
(celebrated through all five U.S. time zones), Kamikaze night, Bob's
Beach Bash, THE "yuppie" party, Wetback night (Mexican food)
and of course the annual array of Halloween parties. The BOEING
employees weren't quite prepared to see Dracula leaving at nine in the
morning after an all night lab session (good for a laugh)!
Enjoyed a few concerts (everything from country-rock to classical) and
attended the theater in G.R. and Seattle for a few plays (such a
creature of culture).
More late breaking news ... I'm a family man
now (an illegitimate child you were no doubt thinking), sorry no
scandal ... just a fat little calico kitten appropriately named
"New Wave" (it really suits her personality). Have
also been actively looking to procure a residential establishment right
here In Seattle ... going to join the ranks with all you homeowners
out there. Mobility reasons, up to now, have forced me to remain
an apartment rat. Now however, I'm afraid Seattle is stuck with
me (I went out and bought an umbrella the other day). Well, I
guess I should wrap this up before it becomes of novel length. I
wish all the best to you and yours in the New Year ahead. Merry
Christmas 1985!
Bye for now,
